The Fellowship of Messines has been created to facilitate the exploration
of conflict situations, initially in Northern Ireland, to enable
participants to acquire the necessary skills of conflict resolution
and mediation. It seeks to develop networks of positive action between
conflicting communities in Northern Ireland, to prevent inter-communal
tensions spilling over into street violence, and aims to promote
projects of positive benefits to interface communities there.
The Fellows of Messines pledge themselves to resolving differences
through peaceful dialogue and reject all forms of violence as a
means of creating change.
This journey is not just for one section of the community. It involves
all of us, from those on the factory floor to shop stewards, managers
and senior executives; from those working in the home to corporate
decision-makers and investors; from students to senior citizens.
Reconciliation will only be brought about by the virtuous circle
of common consent, agreed by all.
